Microwave resonance – The TEWS moisture measuring method uses a sensor to generate a low-powered microwave field resonating characteristically within well-defined parameters. Filling or covering the sensor with a product – e.g. a powder or granules – will change the position and strength of the resonance. These changes largely depend on how much water the product contains. The resonance readings are proportional to moisture. The effects of the product density variations or sensor load are compensated for. The TEWS‘ method allows several dozen, or even several thousand, readings to be taken and shown every second.

TEWS has developed a range of process instruments with which the moisture content as well as the bulk density can be continuously measured during the production process. With the help of microwave sensor that is integrated into the process, the values are measured and visualized reliably and accurately in a matter of seconds with up to 3,500 readings per second.  A quick and targeted intervention in the production process is thus possible.

The process measurement instruments are made with tough industry environments in mind. For example, MW 42XX-series instruments optionally come in a compact housing. Variants with special explosion protection are available for installation in dust and gas Ex zones. 

The MW 4270 features an integrated touch TFT screen for the highest convenience and ease of use. The MW 4260 has a three lines display. All versions can be connected to a PC and controlled using the TMV software. The MW 4200 is the perfect alternative for applications where the distance between the sensor and the display needs to be longer (up to 8m).

Need for Speed!

With up to 40,000 measurement procedures per second, the MW 3012 is a high-performing instrument that supports even the quickest production processes when it comes to moisture and density control.

The High-speed microwave measurement system MW is designed for parallel moisture and density measurement in rapidly moving products – for instance, cigarette rods during manufacture. Up to 40,000 readings per second are available via analog interface. Online measurements in quickly moving threads, yarns, weight measurements of tablets or gelatin capsules using this instrument have also already been performed successfully.

The MW 3012 is used in cigarette making machines also function as a weight sensor for weight control systems and in filter making and combining machines for the measurement of capsule filters or multifilters. 

This allows 100% quality control of the measured material.

Bales & Boxes.

The MW-T is an atline, stand-alone, fully automated and contactless microwave measurement system. It is designed to determine the moisture content and mass per unit area of a great variety of products already packed in boxes or processed to bales. Readings are independent of the product density. No additional weight scale or any other instrument to determine the mass of the goods is needed. If the dimension of the product to be measured is known, the density can be measured as well.

The MW-T will be used for quality monitoring of final products or reverse process control. With 42 measurements per second, one MW-T product scan is covering almost 80% of the material to be measured and is allowing 100% process control. The MW-T is accessible via integrated touch screen or remotely via team-viewer. Data can be transferred to process control if connected.

The laboratory testers MW 4300 and MW 4310 stand for the high quality laboratory measurement of moisture and bulk density.

These robust and functional systems are extremely easy to operate. Product samples can be measured without any preparation. No grinding, weighing before and after the test, or use of chemical reagents. The sample under analysis is neither modified nor heated and can usually be returned to ongoing use.

Measurement results are obtained within seconds. As soon as the sample is filled into the sensor, the result will be displayed. Results are stored in the instrument together with the date, time and other operational details. The measurement system or an external PC, can be used to prepare a statistical analysis of results or display a time vs. value chart of sensor readings.

Laboratory tester MW 4300 features a 10.4“(26,4 cm) LED color touchscreen monitor for displaying sensor values and for the configuration parameter setup. For display and configuration, MW 4310 requires an external monitor, a PC-keyboard and mouse. “TEWS Moisture View ©” is installed in both instruments.

The microwave moisture measurement system is designed as a small compact laboratory instrument that can also easily be used at-line. The display is directly attached to the sensor for optimized space conditions. The MW 1150 is set up and calibrated via PC connection. It enables frequent measurements at a reasonable cost.

The system provides exact and reliable measurements in less than one second. The results are displayed on a 5.7” LCD monitor. Up to 250 readings can be stored internally for 25 different products. 

Supported product temperatures, ranging from 5°C to 60°C, are read using an optional external Pt100 or infrared temperature sensor and are compensated by optional using an automatic thermally stabilized calibration.
